Q: So what does counseling really look like?
A: My counseling sessions are interactive and collaborative; my goal is to support you on the path to emotional well-being, personal growth, and greater life satisfaction. During your first session, I'll ask questions about what brings you to counseling and gather some basic information that will help me to better understand your situation. Following this session, we'll begin working on creating the changes that you want to see in your life.
Q: Do you offer a free consultation so that I can decide if you're the right fit for me?
A: Yes. I offer a free 30-minute phone consultation. If you decide that I'm the right therapist for you, we will schedule your initial intake appointment, which lasts. Every session after your first intake appointment is 50-minutes long, and they are typically scheduled on a weekly basis. As you begin meeting your goals, we'll move to bi-weekly appointments. You are always welcome to come back at a later time as a "check-up" or to continue working on additional problems that may come up for you over the course of therapy.
Q: Do you take insurance?
A: I am an In-Network provider for the following insurance companies and can file claims on your behalf:
- United Healthcare
- Blue Shield
Please contact your insurance carrier to verify if they will cover my services.
Q: Are there any risks to using my health insurance benefits to help cover some of the cost of therapy?
A: Yes. In order for therapy to be covered by insurance, you will receive a mental health diagnosis. Your insurance company requires this diagnosis for reimbursement, and they also have access to your medical record upon request.
Q: What if you're not an In-Network provider with my insurance company?
A: If I'm not an In-Network provider with your insurance carrier and you have a PPO plan, you will need to call the number on the back of your card and ask if you have any out of network benefits. In this case, you will be excepted to pay my full rate out of pocket at the end of each session, and I will provide you with documentation that you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please verify that you have out-of-network benefits before scheduling so as to avoid an unexpected financial strain.
Working with other Professionals
Q: I currently see a psychiatrist for medication. Will you communicate with them about my treatment?
A: If you're under the care of a primary care physician, psychiatrist, acupuncturist, chiropractor or other treatment provider, I am happy to coordinate your treatment with them to improve your care. I believe that it's very important that other professionals and I collaborate, so I will obtain a release of information from you during your first appointment and will reach out to them.
Q: What should I do in the case of an emergency?
A: If you have an emergency, please do not wait for me to return your call. I attempt to answer and return all calls, text messages, and emails within 24 hours. If you need immediate assistance, please call 911 or the Access and Crisis Help Line at 1-(888) 724-7240.
